Our client, a mission-driven Series C mental health tech startup, is transforming how individuals access and experience mental wellness through the power of intelligent, personalized care. With a growing global footprint and deep backing from leading investors, they are building cutting-edge tools that combine clinical science, behavioral data, and machine learning to improve outcomes at scale.
They are now seeking a strategic and technical Vice President, AI and Machine Learning to lead their data science and ML initiatives. This is a fully remote executive-level role responsible for driving AI innovation, developing scalable models, and shaping the company’s long-term intelligence strategy to improve mental health support for millions.
Responsibilities
- AI & ML Strategy:
Define and lead the company’s AI/ML vision and roadmap, aligning with clinical outcomes and business priorities. - Team Leadership:
Build, scale, and mentor a world-class team of machine learning engineers, data scientists, and research scientists. - Product & Engineering Collaboration:
Partner closely with product and engineering to embed AI into user experiences in a secure, ethical, and scalable way. - Model Development:
Oversee the design, training, validation, and deployment of predictive models for personalized care, diagnostics, and engagement. - Ethical AI & Compliance:
Champion responsible AI practices, ensuring models are fair, explainable, and aligned with clinical and regulatory standards. - Research & Innovation:
Stay ahead of industry trends and emerging technologies in NLP, deep learning, reinforcement learning, and clinical AI. - Cross-Functional Impact:
Collaborate with clinical leaders, data privacy experts, and operations to ensure AI delivers measurable impact and integrates seamlessly into care pathways.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in AI, machine learning, or applied data science, including 5+ years in a leadership role
- Experience building and deploying ML systems at scale, ideally in health tech, digital health, or wellness-related fields
- Strong understanding of deep learning, NLP, time-series analysis, and recommendation systems
- Proficient in Python, TensorFlow/PyTorch, and modern MLOps practices
- Demonstrated ability to translate complex models into real-world product applications
- Strong ethical framework and understanding of privacy, compliance, and fairness in healthcare AI
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
- PhD or Master’s in Computer Science, Data Science, AI, or a related field preferred
